Meet my New Kitty Jane Jetset (now you can stop telling me BAB has Hello Kitty ;) )

Jane Jetset

Many fellow furs were telling me at the meets about the availably of Hello Kitty at Build a Bear. Well fret no longer I finally bought one with the Christmas money I received. Her Name is Jan Jetset and will be my second Travel/Con kitty when I could not take my larger Hello Kitty with me to a fur con or one of the large SF or Anime conventions. One day I would like to attend out of state conventions like furry fiesta, where I have to fly rather than drive. I might keep her in my suitcase or even carry her aboard and use her as part of my trip reports.

*perhaps If I get any extra money one day I may done of my fursona.

Christmas 2010

I got the tree up a little early this year because I will be head home on the 24th.
other thing in may life is I got a two moth temp job starting in January, unlike other thias one id a direct temporary position and my lead to more work. Because of a bump in unemployment, I will be able to attend mewcon , a cross genre fan convention (SF anime and a bit of furry) over the New Years Holiday in Portland Oregon. This year there will be three furry panels.

On the subject cross genres fan conventions, I want to bring up is cross genre conventions and other fan conventions that are fur friendly. Here in Northwest we have a new one call MewCon. In addition, I think Radcon in the Tri Cities WA are fur friendly and furry panels pop up at RustyCon (SF) and sakura con (anime). I see this a great opportunity for furs to look beyond the fur con to be with other furs, preset the furry fandom to other fan communities and to expand ones geek horizons beyond furry.

Uniquness of Furry Fandom or Why no Na’Vi Fursuits

One person on furtopia started a discussion about why there wan not many Avatar fursuits, my answer as follows:

I had seen pictures of Na’Vi costumes in other conventions like Comic Con. I would not expect many Avatar fursonas in the fandom for the reason there no Waking green fur Huskies in Hollywood or anime. 99% of furries look inward to themselves and other furs for their inspiration compare to Anime and Science fiction fans look to outside of themselves for inspiration for example Avatar, Star wars, Firefly, Naruto, etc.. As Uncle Kage puts it, we are fans of our own creation. . Take Kumoricon a local Oregon Anime convention; there were two costumers to every attendee but 99% are cosplaying an established anime character. (ps. you think model nazis are bad, meet a cosplayers they will tear into anybody’s who charter portrayal is not perfect.). Hetalia Axis Powers was the in thing and seen multiple cosplayers portraying the same charters.

Now take any fury convention. We may have 10 to hundreds fursuiting but 99% unique individual variations of characters. It will be very hard to find two of the same fursuit or artwork. This is not to say one will not run into a Stitch, Bolt, or a Br’er Fox at a fur con, but they are just one in a sea of many different creations. This variations and uniqueness in fursuiting, literature, and art is what drew me to the furry fandom
